SUMMER 2021 — BAPC LEADER 24 Building on its portfolio of 64” UVgel roll-to-roll printers, this industrial-grade press provides access to a print technology that has won very significant market share since it was unveiled four years ago. “Since launching the Colorado series in 2017, this technology has truly disrupted the market and, with over 2,000 installations worldwide printing more than 25 million square metres to date, feedback has been extremely positive,” enthuses Michele Tuscano, Head of Global Partner Channel & Vice President EMEA - Large Format Graphics at Canon Production Printing. The Colorado 1630 base model can be configured according to each user’s unique business needs by adding modular options such as FLXfinish, a second media roll, and easy double-sided printing. Adding flexibility for a matte or gloss finish to each print, the optional FLXfinish module uses a unique LED curing technique designed to add visual impact to applications such as banners, wall coverings and point-of-sale materials without the need to change inks or media. The press delivers print quality of 1,800dpi and highly durable, odourless and instantly dry prints on almost any media. In its fastest print mode, for applications such as outdoor banners and billboards, the Colorado 1630 can attain a maximum print speed of 111sq m/hr. In high quality mode, the device delivers a cruising speed of 29sq m/hr. The new versatile printer offers the same high productivity features, output quality and media versatility of its bigger brother, the Colorado 1650, which was the star attraction for thousands of visitors to Sign and Digital UK when it was first unveiled. Using Canon’s unique UVgel 460 inks, the platform is designed for a low total cost of ownership with punchy graphics made possible with a much smaller amount of ink needed due to its high pigment content. Users can benefit from uninterrupted production with”on- the-fly” ink replenishment, which – combined with automation features such as nozzle monitoring, printhead maintenance and media feed winding – allows users to reduce unnecessary downtime. The modular architecture of the Colorado 1630 allows customers to start with the base model and, depending on business needs, choose from a range of additional upgrades. With the large-format print market continuing to see sustained long-term growth – and remaining one of the top areas for business diversification for printers across the UK – Canon has unveiled the Colorado 1630 to provide access to the sector for a wider swathe of businesses.
