BAPC LEADER — SPRING 2021 23 Nigel Toplis, The Bardon Group Managing Director Nigel started his franchise career with Kall Kwik, the specialist high street print and design franchise and was Managing Director until he left in December 2002 to join Recognition Express. Nigel was a Director of the BAPC between 2003 and 2006 and has supported the Association for more than twenty years. In January 2012 Nigel took on the master licence for Kall Kwik (from the US) and in July 2016 added the UK’s leading system hygiene franchise Techclean to the Bardon Group. Nigel has written several business books including three on franchising, was previously Chairman of the BFA and is a Fellow of Lancaster University. Mike Roberts, PMG Managing Director and IPIA President Having worked as an apprentice compositor in a print studio, Mike moved up through the ranks of the print industry and spent 14 years at one of the UK’s leading print management companies. For the last 17 years Mike has run and owned print management business PMG, employing 15 staff, serving a range of sectors such as construction, hotel/leisure, kitchen/bedroom and bathroom, plus many others. Mike has been a member of the IPIA throughout his career and served on its Council before becoming Chairman. He assumed the role of President in 2020. Tony Kenton, ITIQ and Associates Managing Director, Former-BAPC Chairman In 1976 Tony’ founded a small firm of artworkers, copywriters, printers and copying specialists, selling printed marketing and business stationery to local businesses in Finchley, London. With the support of a great team, CPI Copyspeed grew with several locations and production plants. By the end of the 90s this included an international consultancy business in New York and Denmark. Tony has produced two seminal books on printed communications and is a founding member of the IPN Global network and has been at the heart of the BAPC for 30 years. Kath Doran, Spectrum Print and Plastics Managing Director and IPIA Council Member Spectrum Print and Plastics is a very special business headed up by Kath, who has seen it grow, diversify and prosper over the years to become a highly-respected and innovative manufacturing powerhouse. “The secret to the success of the business is simple - listen to your customers, ask them questions, add value to every engagement with them and make sure you bring every member of staff with you,” says Kath. Kath is a former Chair of the IPIA and sits on its Council, where she has been fundamental in strengthening its long-term growth potential. Lewis Evans, Product and Sales Manager, Vivid Laminating Technologies, IPIA Council Member A strong growth market for print over the last decade has been specialty print finishing and short-run luxury packaging. At the heart of this sector is Vivid Laminating Technologies who have pioneered technology to alllow print businsses to diversify their operations and create new profitable revenue streams. Lewis has been at the center of Vivid since 2003 and has been instrumental in shaping the course of its development. Lewis became an IPIA Council Member in 2019 and is passionate about the future of print and its place in the marketing mix.
